Fluffy Chipmunks


❀ Chipmunks are smaller squirrels with stripes
❀ Most of the species have alternating dark and light stripes on their body
❀ Chipmunks are cute, energetic members of the rodent family
❀ There are 23 different kinds of chipmunks
❀ They mostly eat nuts, they like acorns, peanuts, walnuts, almonds
❀ They can eat fruits like strawberries, grapes, and apples
❀ They also can eat seeds like sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and sometimes they eat small insects
❀ Chipmunks' mouth is small, but its cheeks can expand to three times its head size
❀ Their cheek pouches allow chipmunks to carry multiple food items to their burrows for either storage or for eating

❀ They weighs about 28-142 grams
❀ Their length are about 4-7 inches or 10-18 cm
❀ Their tail can reach about 3-5 inches or 8-13 cm long
❀ Chipmunk's lifespan is 2-3 years
❀ In the spring time, they emerge from hibernation and become active
❀ Although chipmunks hibernate, they do not store fat, instead they slowly gnaw away at their summer bounty throughout the winter
❀ Chipmunks are most active during the early morning and late afternoon

❀ They can live in an old stump, they will dig golf-size holes in the ground close to it and that's the entrance to their home
❀ Under the stump, where it's protected from rain, chipmunks digs out a den about the size of a watermelon, many tunnels run in and out of his den
❀ The entrances to the burrows are always well hidden
❀ Chipmunk likes to have many places that it can dive for cover when there is danger
❀ Their burrows are kept very clean with separate spaces for sleeping, refuse, and storage
❀ One chipmunk may store up to 8 pounds in its burrows
❀ They place grasses and leaves in their main burrow so that they can rest comfortably and give birth to their young ones

❀ They take an average of 75 breaths in a minute
❀ Chipmunks have a distinct way of communicating with each other
❀ They make shrill bird-like chirping sounds and use gestures to communicate with each other
❀ The mating period for a chipmunk begins from the month of February to April
❀ The number of young ones lies between 1 to 9
❀ They may have around 4 to 5 of young ones twice a year
❀ The Least Chipmunks are the smallest, they are 9 to 11 cm long and weighs 1 to 2 ounces
